Frequently asked questions about avoltra

What is avoltra and who is the software for?

avoltra is AI-powered software for energy cost optimization in energy-intensive industry. The platform brings together market data, portfolio and risk management, demand forecasts and the control of flexible loads in one place. It is designed for energy procurement, energy management and plant management, for example in the lime, cement, food, paper, chemical, glass, plastics or automotive industry. avoltra is developed in Germany and hosted in Europe.

Does avoltra replace our energy supplier?

No. Your supplier remains your supplier, and existing supply contracts continue to run. avoltra helps you procure electricity and gas at the right time and in the right quantity, regardless of which supplier you buy from.

What does energy flexibility mean, and do we need new equipment for it?

Energy flexibility means consuming electricity mainly when it is cheap. Many industrial plants have equipment with a buffer, such as mills with silos, refrigeration systems or pulp tanks in paper mills. Their operation can be shifted to low-cost hours without producing less. avoltra plans schedules for this based on day-ahead and intraday prices, grid fees and your production requirements. New equipment is generally not needed, although additional metering points may be, depending on the site.

How much can be saved with avoltra, and how is it measured?

Across our projects, customers typically save 5 to 10 percent of their energy costs. How much it is for you depends on your load profile, your procurement strategy and your shiftable loads. That is why we calculate the potential in advance using your own data. In operation, the platform reports the savings transparently, for example compared with the market average or as energy costs per tonne against a historical baseline.

What data does avoltra need, and how much effort is the implementation?

To get started, historical load profiles, your current electricity and gas contracts, and details about sites and on-site generation are sufficient. For flexibility, equipment data is added, such as silo fill levels or readings from individual consumers. The data can be provided via Excel or CSV or automatically from your energy management, ERP or control system. Your existing systems remain in use, and no intervention in plant control is required. Within two weeks at the latest, your data is connected and you can use avoltra to its full extent.

How secure is our data with avoltra?

avoltra is web-based software, developed in Germany and hosted in Europe on servers certified to DIN ISO/IEC 27001 and 27018. Processing is GDPR-compliant. Your data is used only for forecasts and the optimization of your own portfolio. On request, we sign a non-disclosure agreement before any data is exchanged, and your IT team receives all documentation for the security review, including via our Trust Center.

What does avoltra cost, and how do you get started?

avoltra is billed as an annual software license, not as a consulting fee. The price depends on modules, sites and scope. You can start modularly, for example with procurement only or with a single asset.

Does avoltra work for electricity and gas and for multiple sites?

Yes. avoltra maps electricity and gas in one portfolio, with contracts, tranches, PPAs, grid fees and levies. On-site generation from CHP or PV feeds into forecasting and procurement planning. With multiple plants, you see all sites in one overview and manage procurement centrally.

Which companies is avoltra suitable for?

avoltra is built for energy-intensive industrial companies that manage their energy procurement in a structured way, for example with tranche procurement and portfolio and risk management. This includes international groups with many sites as well as companies with one large plant. What matters is your energy demand, your procurement structure and your flexible equipment. We clarify how large your potential is in advance in an analysis using your data.
